Acute Illness

Most, if not all people get sick with some kind of acute illness at some point in their lives. When we say “getting sick,” we usually mean we have something like the common cold, the flu, or perhaps a stomach bug. Most of the time, the solution is something on the order of bed rest and fluids. However, certain illnesses are more serious and may require more aggressive treatment. Here at Comprehensive Family Medicine & Aesthetics, Dr. Gordon provides evaluations and treatment for those struggling with illnesses. We welcome you to get in touch with us today to set up a consultation.

What Is an Acute Illness?

An acute illness is one that arrives suddenly as a result of infection, has noticeable symptoms like congestion, cough, aches, and pains or fever, and passes in a week or two. These issues often occur due to a contagion, where you have come into contact with someone else suffering from the illness. While many of these short-lived illnesses are simply unpleasant, some can be incapacitating or even life-threatening, depending on the factors involved.

What Causes Acute Illnesses?

Most acute illnesses are caused either by bacteria or viruses. Bacterial infections are most often treated using antibiotics. Viruses, by contrast, require more extensive care. Different viruses have different structures so the treatment for each one may vary. The best way to deal with a virus is with a vaccine that creates antibodies in your system so that you do not get the virus in the first place.

How Do We Address Illnesses?

Here at Comprehensive Family Medicine & Aesthetics, we practice a concierge approach to medicine that gets at the heart of how you’re feeling and addresses your needs personally.
